Continuing a 10-year partnership, SWACO recently assisted Columbus City Schools to improve their recycling by sharing best practices and donating 117 recycling containers.
Currently, 60% of the waste disposed of at the landfill is generated by commercial partners. As SWACO focuses on new programs to assist this sector, the recycling impact of Columbus City Schools, the largest school district in the state, can be significant.
SWACO provided technical assistance and advice for Columbus City Schools to contract for waste hauling and recycling services in order for the district to take over their recycling program. SWACO will continue to identify resources and programs for schools to improve their sustainability.
SWACO applauds Columbus City Schools efforts and looks forward to their participation in upcoming roundtable discussions to further those efforts.
