NWRA Sustainability Partnership Game Changer
SWACO’s partnership with Aria Energy has resulted in a nomination for the Sustainability Partnership Game Changer Award from the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA).
This award recognizes partnerships that include municipal and county governments, regulatory agencies, community organizations and private industry that have successfully partnered to implement game-changing initiatives, policies or programs that advance sustainability in their community.
In 2012, SWACO entered into a 20-year public-private partnership with Aria Energy to take captured landfill gas, clean it and put it back into a productive use.
In one day, SWACO’s Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS) collects enough energy to support 12 people for an entire year.
SWACO receives between $2 million to $3 million annually in revenue as part of the gas sales.
The award will be presented at the NWRA Executive Leadership Roundtable in Florida in October.
Safety in Excellence Award from SWANA
SWACO’s Transfer Driver Triandos Howard recently was awarded the first Safety in Excellence Award from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Ohio Buckeye Chapter.
The award was presented in September at the SWANA annual meeting in Wooster, Ohio.
With 17 years’ experience driving tractor/trailers from the transfer stations to the landfill, Howard has an outstanding safety record and is deserving of this significant honor.
