Earth Day - April 22, 2017
Every year, since 1970, there have been sustainable and earth focused activities during the month of April, and especially on April 22 - Earth Day.
But do you know the history of how Earth Day came to be? In a nutshell…
U.S Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin witnessed the devastation from the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara, California and was inspired to raise public awareness about air and water pollution and force environmental protection onto the national political agenda.
The day was originally introduced to the media as a ‘national teach-in on the environment’ and fell between spring break and final exams.
Twenty million Americans took to the streets, parks and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment in massive rallies coast to coast.
