Landfill

SWACO’s Franklin County Sanitary Landfill is located south of Downtown Columbus at Exit 97 of Interstate 71 in Jackson Township, Ohio. The Landfill is a Municipal Solid Waste Landfill (MSW) and accepts most household wastes. The Landfill is owned and operated by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio and serves the residents and businesses of the Solid Waste District.   SWACO’s district consists of all of Franklin County and portions of surrounding counties to the extent those municipalities with the majority of their population in Franklin County extending into adjacent counties.


Unacceptable Materials

These types of solid waste are NOT ACCEPTED at the Sanitary Landfill:
  • Solid waste generated outside of the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District, unless approved in writing by the Executive Director
  • Infectious/pathological or biological waste. For more information regarding the Authority's "Medical Waste Disposal Policy" call 614-871-5100.
  • We will not accept appliances with Freon
  • Chemotherapeutic waste
  • Radioactive materials
  • Hazardous waste
  • Explosive and ordnance materials
  • Drums, barrels, buckets and other containers unless lids have been removed and interiors are cleaned and free of residue in accordance with The Authority's "Empty Container Policy".
  • Liquid waste, including motor oil and paint
  • Asbestos
  • Yard waste( leaves, grass, shrubs, trees )
  • Whole or shredded tires
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Motor vehicles and major motor vehicle parts such as transmissions, rear ends, frames, springs and fenders, agricultural and farm machinery and equipment, marine vessels and major parts thereof, and any other types of large equipment or machinery
  • Gas cylinders, unless empty and delivered separate from other solid waste
  • Contaminated soil (soil which contains petroleum based products)
  • Shredder fluff, meaning material generated by metal reclaimers from the shredding of automobiles, light duty trucks, motor vehicle engines, household appliances (including white goods) and other miscellaneous metal parts, which is primarily non-metallic flammable agglomeration of, among other things, plastics, polyvinyl chlorides, solid and foam rubber, synthetic and natural fibers and glass, which may contain small amounts of oil, grease, automotive fluids, dirt and other matter

Directions
From downtown Columbus, take Interstate 71 South towards Grove City. Exit the Interstate at exit No. 97 ( London-Groveport Road ) and turn right. The entrance to the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill is located on the left (South) side of the road approximately ½ mile from the interstate.

Rates (Effective January 1, 2009)
$35.50 per ton with a $5.00 minimum charge
$5.00 additional for each tire
$50.00 additional for each large tire
$20.00 additional for each white good
