General Landfill Questions
What are your hours of operation?
We are open 5:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:00 a.m. until noon on Saturdays. We are closed on Sundays and all major holidays.

Where are you located?
SWACO’s Franklin County landfill is located at 3851 London-Groveport Road which is also Route 665. That is Exit 97 on Interstate 71. Southbound on 71, take Exit 97, turn right, and then proceed down the road a quarter of a mile. Northbound on 71, take exit 97, turn left, cross the overpass, and again we are about a quarter of a mile down the road. The landfill is on the south side of London-Groveport Road.

How much does it cost to dispose of material in the landfill?
It will cost you 33-dollars and 50-cents per ton with a 5-dollar minimum to use our landfill.

Do you accept charge cards?
Yes, SWACO does accept VISA and/or MasterCard charge cards. We also take cash and checks with the driver's ID.  Commercial Customers can also contact the Authority's Finance Department at 614-871-5100 to inquire about obtaining a SWACO Charge Account.

What can I bring to the landfill for disposal?
We accept general solid waste, including furniture, carpeting, and general household trash.  However we urge you to recycle everything possible before bringing trash to the landfill. See what is recyclable at: Residential Recycling.  We do not accept yard waste, liquids, or anything hazardous.

Can I disposal of Tires and Appliances in the Landfill?
SWACO does not accept dedicated loads of tires. Tires that are incidentally included with other solid wastes are accepted for a charge of $5.00 per tire or $50.00 for large truck tires. Appliances are accepted for a charge of $20.00 for each appliance, including those containing freon. However a listing of locations that recycle appliances is available here: Dispose of Appliances

I am a commercial hauler. What do I need to do in order to use the landfill?
Two things:
    1. All commercial haulers and businesses must display a hauling permit issued by the Franklin County Board
        of Health. Contact them at 614-462-4148.
    2. Contact SWACO's Finance Department at 614-871-5100 to register your vehicle(s) and obtain disposal
        payment information.

I do not live in your area - are there other places closer to me?
Commercial haulers only can use one of the three SWACO transfer stations. Due to safety concerns residents cannot use SWACO transfer stations.


Residential Recycling
SWACO provides multiple drop off recycling locations throughout Franklin County. The updated list is available at: Residential Recycling. Curbside residential recycling in Columbus is also available through a subscription with Rumpke. Many suburbs provide curbside recycling as part of their trash collection. Contact your respective city hall or township office for more information.

Business Recycling
More than half of what is sent to SWACO’s Franklin County landfill comes from businesses and commercial accounts. The majority of that trash is recyclable. SWACO offers advice and programs to help your business “go green” at: SmartBusinesses.

Yard Waste
Yard Waste is not accepted at SWACO’s Franklin County landfill. You should check with your local city hall or township office for details on curbside yard waste collections. Residents of Franklin County can dispose of their yard waste (free of charge) at either of SWACO’s contracted composting sites. They are located at 4120 Robert Road in Upper Arlington, and at 2850 Rohr Road.  For more information: Yard Waste Disposal.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collections
I am cleaning out my garage (basement, house etc.) and I have items like paint, paint thinner, and lawn chemicals I no longer want. What do I do with them?
SWACO has a permanent HHW collection site located at 1249 Essex Ave (Just south of the Ohio State Fairgrounds). We also provide warm weather suburban collections. For more information on our permanent site and our community collections: Household Hazardous Waste.

Landfill tours and other SWACO Educational Programs
SWACO’s provides tours of our Franklin County Landfill for schools and other groups. We also have a lending library for those term papers and other projects on recycling, waste reduction, etc. For more information: SwacoKids

Construction & Demolition Waste
SWACO’s Franklin County Landfill does not accept dedicated loads of construction and demolition materials.   Those materials must be taken to a Construction & Demolition Landfill. For a list of those landfills click here: Construction and Demolition Waste.

Trash and Bulk Pickup
My trash has not been picked up or I need a bulk pick up.

SWACO is not responsible for residential trash collection. If your trash has not been collected, or you need bulk collection service, you should call your city hall or township offices. In the City of Columbus, you will need to call 614-645-3111. Other communities are listed in the government (blue) pages of the phone book.

Batteries
What do I do with household batteries? Car Batteries?

If you have household batteries (AAA, AA, A, C, D) they can be disposed of with your trash. If the batteries are nickel, or cadmium, they must be brought to SWACO’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection center or to one of our community HHW collections. More information: Battery Disposal. Car batteries should be recycled at the site of purchase or at many auto parts retailers.

Computer, TV & Electronics Recycling
Where do I recycle my old Computer, TV, or other Electronic Waste?
There are a number of locations to recycle e-waste in Greater Columbus. SWACO has a list of consumer electronics recyclers at: Electronic Disposal Information.

Illegal Dumping & Littering
Where can I report illegal dumping or littering?
SWACO funds the “Nail-a-Dumper program which allows citizens to report illegal dumping and littering in Franklin County. More information is at: Illegal Dumping and Littering.
