Recycling Champions Program

Champions

SWACO’s Business Recycling Champion program is designed to help businesses implement sustainable recycling programs and to provide financial assistance that supports the overall goal to divert 75% of Franklin County's recyclable materials from the landfill by 2032. Since businesses generate 60% of the landfill material presently going into the landfill, this program was created to specifically help local businesses start new recycling programs and achieve their environmental sustainability goals.

By helping companies implement sustainable recycling programs we can make a difference as a community and achieve diversion goals for Franklin County.

We offer financial assistance to companies that qualify to help you successfully launch recycling programs.

Becoming a Business Recycling Champion will mean that you successfully completed the program SWACO created, and your company has implemented sustainable recycling practices. This accomplishment will also allow you to classify your business as a Business Recycling Champion and promote it to your customers and employees.

Be on your way to a successful program in just four easy steps.

Step 1: Enroll

The application process is all online through our website. Check back here for the link to enroll.

The application link is COMING SOON! In the meantime, you can work on the two key components that are required to apply for assistance: Write your recycling plan and conduct your waste audit.

Step 2: Build

The two key components of the program include writing a recycling plan and conducting a waste audit. We provide free, downloadable, editable tools on our business resource page that make it easy to complete these requirements.

Step 3: Execute

Once your recycling plan and audit have been submitted and reviewed by SWACO, if approved, we will execute a Champions Agreement with you. This document outlines commitments and responsibilities including agreeing to recycle for a minimum of one year with a hauler who has agreed to participate in our program.

We also provide information on the next steps to complete the purchase of containers, signage, or service start-up support, if applicable to your recycling program AFTER the agreement has been executed. The program is NOT a reimbursable arrangement.

Step 4: Engage

Launch your program by holding a Kick-Off meeting, providing education and instructions to custodial partners, deploying your containers and signage, and starting recycling.
