COVID-19 Update: Statement from Executive Director Ty Marsh

Franklin County communities are facing an unprecedented and challenging time. With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) impacting all of us, I want to assure you that SWACO facilities will continue to remain open to serve the residents and businesses in central Ohio. In fact, as of today, Thursday, March 19, 2020, all SWACO facilities continue to remain open during our regular business hours which can be viewed here.

At SWACO, we are committed to protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers, and communities and have taken steps to ensure the safe disposal of Franklin County’s waste continues without interruption.

To that end, we have enacted the following procedures for SWACO workforce and facilities:

  • Employees have been instructed to follow all CDC guidelines.
  • Landfill and transfer station employees, including drivers, continue to wear required personal protective equipment provided by our safety personnel.
  • No visitors are permitted in SWACO buildings without prior authorization.
  • Extra cleaning and sanitizing of our facilities is occurring daily.
  • All landfill tours have been cancelled.

What we’re asking SWACO customers to do:

  • Bag all trash which will help protect waste hauling, landfill and transfer station employees.
  • Dispose of medical sharps in a marked “sharps’ container.
  • Continue to recycle. Visit for info.
  • Remind residents to direct recycling and landfill questions to 614-871-5100, or via our Facebook and Twitter pages.

While there are currently no operational changes at SWACO, we are monitoring the guidance provided by national, state and local health officials daily and if changes in our operations occur, SWACO’s website will be updated and we will notify you.

Thank you for all that you’re doing to help Franklin County families and businesses through this uncertain time.

Ty Marsh, executive director
