Young Road Construction Project

While SWACO is working hard to divert as much material as possible from the landfill, ensuring safe and accessible disposal at the Franklin County Sanitary Landfill for Franklin County families and businesses is also a priority. To prepare for the construction of additional landfill cells at the existing landfill site, SWACO is creating a new area west of Young Road from which to borrow soils for the landfill. In order to access those soils and continue to meet the disposal needs of residents, SWACO will be constructing a new access road across Young Road for SWACO vehicles to safely cross between sites. The new road will only be used two-to-three months at a time while new cells are being constructed.

Construction of the new access road is expected to occur from June 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020. A traffic plan has been approved by Franklin County. We expect that Young Road will be closed (except to the Franklin County Sheriff’s office and emergency crews) for some, or all, of that time. Therefore, detours will be in effect, please reivew the traffic detour available here

Questions about the road’s construction should be directed to Matt Reardon, Environmental Manager at 614-801-6413. Media inquiries should be directed to Hanna Greer-Brown, Communications Manager at 614-801-6419.
