Our state’s response to the pandemic has been swift and has certainly saved many lives. And, our individual response to support local businesses and our neighbors has been a shining example of what it means to be a Buckeye in America’s heartland. We at SWACO have never been more proud of our community. Yet I know many of us wish we could do more to help.
To those, I offer this: Central Ohio is home to nearly 400 businesses that rely on recyclables. These businesses employ about 5,000 people. With so many of us spending more time at home, we’re buying and using more goods packaged in glass, plastic and cardboard, making it easier for us to recycle more of these materials.
Besides providing jobs — and paychecks — to thousands of people, recycling offers many other benefits. Recycling newspapers, magazines, envelopes and school papers, for example, helps our mills create products like toilet paper and paper towels, and recycling cardboard ensures that there are boxes to ship goods to our doors so we can avoid going into stores.
Recycling has never been more important to our economy and environment.
Let’s celebrate Earth Month by committing to help without leaving our homes. Visit RecycleRight.org for more information on recycling.
