SWACO Partners with MORPC to Sponsor Summit on Sustainability

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Council will host its annual Sustainability Summit on Friday, October 15, 2021. This day-long event will take place at the Hilton Columbus Downtown.  The Summit on Sustainability is MORPC’s signature environmental conference, bringing community leaders together from across the region to explore and share sustainable ideas and solutions and celebrate individuals and collaborative sustainability efforts with the Green Region Awards.

“As the regional council for more than 70 local governments, we take tremendous pride in bringing leaders and experts together to share innovative sustainability strategies and recognize key individuals transforming our region,” said MORPC Executive Director William Murdock. “This year’s theme, ‘Moving Forward Together,’ reinforces the importance of bringing people of diverse experiences, backgrounds and perspectives together to help move our region toward a more equitable and resilient future.”

This year’s summit will feature Dana Bourland, author of Gray to Green Communities:  A Call to Action on the Climate and Housing Crisis. Most recently, Bourland led the creation of the environment program at the JPB Foundation – one of the largest private foundations in the United States. She has worked at the intersection of systems related to health, poverty, and the environment throughout her career. Bourland is committed to solving the nation’s housing and climate crises in ways that advance racial, economic, and environmental justice.

The event will feature breakout sessions that focus on a variety of topics, including energy, water quality, materials management, active transportation, land-use development, air quality, social equity, economic development, weatherization, and policy. The summit will also feature Pecha Kucha-style presentations sharing real-life solutions and self-sustaining practices that help make our communities today and tomorrow. The Summit on Sustainability is presented by SWACO.

“SWACO is proud to partner with MORPC on this year’s Summit on Sustainability and in moving forward together towards a more sustainable future for our region for generations to come,” said Ty Marsh, SWACO’s Executive Director. “We celebrate the communities, businesses, and non-profits that are answering the call to lead. Together, we can make a difference.”

This year’s summit was also made possible with the support of The Ohio State University (program sponsor), Ohio University (network sponsor); supporting sponsors: COTA and Ohio EPA; Columbus State Community College (morning plenary sponsor) and breakout sessions sponsors: Kegler, Brown, Hill + Ritter, MurphyEpson, Ramboll, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and Transit Columbus.
