Make Your Next Event a Green One!

Franklin County is proud to be home to hundreds of public events and festivals each year. While these events welcome thousands of people to our community and help our local economy, they also lead to more waste being created. In fact, our community sends over a million tons of material to the Franklin County sanitary landfill every year – a large percentage of that material had the potential to be reused, recycled or composted before being landfilled.

Make Your Next Event Green

Local events play an important part in advancing the central Ohio region’s sustainability efforts. And, SWACO wants to make it easy for your event to get involved.

Whether you’re looking for funding to offset the cost of waste diversion efforts like recycling or composting food waste, or simply need inspiration and to learn about best practices for hosting a green event, SWACO’s Event Waste Reduction Grants are designed to help local event organizers reduce the amount of waste their event generates.

Applying is Easy

SWACO is accepting applications until August 4, 2023 for events taking place this calendar year. Grant awards range from $2,000 to $6,000 depending on the size of the event. For more information, eligibility and to apply, please click here.

Do you plan to recycle and simply want to borrow some recycling containers?

SWACO’s Event Container Loan Program is designed to help Franklin County events, that already have a hauling contract in place, collect recyclables such as cardboard and paper, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and cups, and metal cans and cups.

Through the program, event organizers can request ClearStream recycling and waste containers by simply providing a fully refundable deposit (exceptions apply) in order to borrow SWACO’s containers. ClearStream containers are proven successful because they increase the amount of recyclables collected and reduce the amount of non-recyclables tossed into the recycling stream. Compost containers are also available upon request.
