A recycling plan helps organize the information necessary for a successful diversion program. The plan can also identify responsibilities for implementing the program and the goals that you want to achieve.  A recycling plan also serves as an important reference when things change.  For example, if a contracted custodial service provider changes, the plan is a great reference for how recycling is handled in your place of business. Similarly, elements of the plan can be helpful during the onboarding of new employees or the opening of a new location. A Recycling Plan Template exists online at SWACO.org that provides the tools to help you get started!   

SWACO’s template is easy to fill out, captures the information needed to make a sustainable program, and provides your businesses the foundation for it to be used as a reference tool - being updated when contracts change, personnel change, or if your recycling program expands so that you can accept more or different materials.
