Community Waste Reduction Grant Spotlight - Worthington Partnership Green Team

Worthington Partnership Green Team - CWRG Container LidsAs part of our ongoing mission to manage the waste stream to enable sustainable community growth, prosperity and environmental stewardship, SWACO has established the Community Waste Reduction Grant (CWRG). Through this grant program, Franklin County governmental entities like parks, cities, townships and villages, schools, other public sectors and non-profit organizations can receive funding for projects and programs that address waste reduction and diversion.

Worthington Partnership Green Team and SWACO Group Photo - CWRG Container LidWe're pleased to announce one of SWACO's latest CWRG partnerships with the Worthington Partnership Green Team. With the support of the City of Worthington, the team’s overall goals are to reduce event-generated waste, provide sustainability-related education opportunities, increase community composting and encourage waste reduction at the Worthington Farmers Market.

With the aid of the CWRG grant, the Worthington Partnership Green Team conducted a trash and recycling audit to learn what people were placing in recycling and trash bins in Old Worthington. The team then sought to clear up confusion about recycling, and in May the team unveiled 15 new recycling bin lids and signage along High Street in Old Worthington. The lids have smaller openings to help reduce contamination and they feature educational signage to help people place only recycling materials inside.

In addition to the recycling bin improvements, the CWRG provides funding for several other waste-reduction projects in Worthington.

SWACO is NOW ACCEPTING applications for the 2024 CWRG program. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to contact 614-871-5100 or email [email protected] to share ideas before applying. Applications will be accepted until August 4, 2023.

Representatives of public-sector entities can learn more about the CWRG program at SWACO.org.
