[ARCHIVED] Collection Events are a Hit...Why Wait?

Were you one of 942 cars waiting in line at the Earth Day Household Hazardous Waste collection event?  If so, SWACO, the environment and the community thank you.

A total of 72,481 lbs. of materials were collected - an increase of 17,108 over last year’s event.

Due to the incredible response, the collection hours were expanded to allow all participants the opportunity to drop off their materials.

Permanent Location Operates Three Days a Week

You don’t have to wait for the next collection event. SWACO operates a permanent location Household Hazardous Waste Center at:

645 E. 8th Avenue
Columbus, Ohio 43201
(The corner of E. 8th and Essex Avenue)

SWACO has expanded the hours and added an extra day for the convenience of residents of Franklin County. Residents can bring accepted waste items for recycling and/or environmentally safe disposal.

Weekly Hours (Closed Holidays)

Wednesdays: 12 noon to 6 p.m.

Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fridays: 12 noon to 6 p.m.

Drug Take Back Events Break New Record

National Drug Take Back Day events in central Ohio set a new record as well, collecting over 3,254 lbs. of unwanted prescription drugs and medications. Fifteen locations participated and below are the leading collection sites:
