New, Improved Recycling & Food Waste Programming For Your Business
SWACO is proud to sponsor the Columbus Region Logistics Council’s screening of Beyond Zero, a groundbreaking documentary that reimagines how capitalism can drive positive environmental change.
Did you know local businesses generate 60% of the waste ending up in the Franklin County Landfill and that nearly a million pounds of food is thrown away every day in our community? Fortunately, SWACO’s Business Recycling Champion program is designed to help businesses address just these issues by implementing sustainable recycling and composting programs.
In April, SWACO announced a new and improved version of the program that makes it easier than ever for businesses to participate and now includes the Food Waste Champion Program so that they can get the same level of support for food waste that they get for recycling.
The team at Worthington Enterprises will be the first Food Waste and Business Recycling Champion under the revamped program. SWACO helped supercharge the recycling program at Worthington Enterprises with all new containers and signage designed with SWACO’s best practices and Worthington Enterprises’ brand guidelines. SWACO then supported the rollout of the company’s first composting program, including signage, containers and hauling reimbursement as well as technical assistance and training. Finally, and perfectly timed for Earth Month, SWACO hosted a live webinar in April for staff to learn more about their new program, ask questions, and celebrate the start of the programs.
Any business in Franklin County is eligible to participate. Click here to learn more today!
Congratulations, Compost Exchange!

Celebrate Small Business Month with SWACO as we congratulate the Compost Exchange for winning a Market Development grant From the Ohio EPA.
Ohio EPA’s Market Development Grant provides businesses such as manufacturers, recyclers, and material processors with opportunities to create or expand recycling processing capacity including organics and recycled material production, and SWACO is a government sponsor for interested businesses such as the Compost Exchange.
The Compost Exchange is the first and largest service provider of residential curbside food scrap recycling and composting in Central Ohio.
With this new grant, the Compost Exchange will purchase two new electric vehicles with lift gates as part of a move toward an all-electric fleet to be more sustainable. The lift gate will allow them to serve businesses that produce larger volumes of food waste which can’t be lifted manually. When the grant is completed, they will be able to expand their service territory, serving more business customers and ultimately keep more food waste out of the landfill.
