Electronic Waste
Electronic waste (E-waste), which covers almost any electronic device having a cord or a battery, is being discarded at an increasing rate as technology continues to improve. Most E-waste has the potential to be reused, refurbished, or recycled, and typically contains highly recyclable materials including valuable metals. E-waste may include devices such as:
- Cell phones
- Tablets
- Computers
- Printers
- Keyboards, mice and similar peripheral devices
- Televisions
Program Overview
SWACO’s E-Waste Diversion Program was created to increase the safe removal of these materials from the waste stream. This includes the collection and recycling of unwanted E-Waste in an environmentally responsible manner. Schools located within SWACO’s Jurisdiction. Schools can opt into SWACO’s contract for their E-Waste recycling needs. This allows them to get our best pricing, terms, and certified vendor services without doing the legwork themselves.
Program Details
SWACO used a competitive bidding process to establish contracts with local electronics recyclers Columbus Micro Systems and AVAY. As R2V3 Certified recyclers, they provide safe, secure and environmentally responsible services for the disposal of used electronics.
Participate
SWACO encourages school districts, government agencies, communities, and residents to participate in this important waste diversion program ensuring that e-waste generated in central Ohio is properly reused, refurbished, or recycled.
