SWACO has been designated an Ohio Green Fleet through the Clean Fuels Ohio’s statewide Ohio Green Fleets program. The Ohio Green Fleets program recognizes an organization’s fleet efficiency and environmental performance.
Designated an Ohio Green Fleet provides a community service by improving air quality and reducing Ohio’s dependence on imported petroleum.
SWACO earned the designation as a one-star Ohio Green Fleet. Fleets are evaluated based on policies they have implemented to reduce vehicle emissions and reliance on petroleum fuels.
In 2008, SWACO began the process of moving towards the reduction of the use of petroleum fuels by utilizing vehicles that rely on compressed natural gas (CNG).
More recently the CNG fueling station infrastructure has grown in Franklin County. As a result, SWACO has purchased and now operates 13 passenger vehicles, 2 front load trucks and 4 transfer trucks that utilize CNG instead of petroleum fuels.
SWACO has a phased-in plan to replace as many vehicles as possible in the future. The investigation of installing a CNG station is underway.
