Kittie’s is a family-owned coffee shop and bakery with three locations in central Ohio, serving handcrafted coffee drinks made with house-made syrups, along with baked goods and breakfast “sammies.” The company works to reduce waste by limiting overproduction, donating unsold items daily and composting food waste, as well as its compostable to-go cups.

Who They Are
Why They’re a Champion
Owners Steve and Diane Herman have made diversion part of Kittie’s story from the beginning. They also participated in the SWACO pilot program that helped launch the Business Food Waste Champion Program.
Because Kittie’s was already recycling and composting, the business received customized food waste signage and demonstrated how two businesses can work together to share the cost of diverting food waste. SWACO funded composting at the Worthington location for the first six months, coordinating collection with Joya’s.
In addition to composting and recycling, the business participates in a food donation program with Columbus Food Rescue and in the OKAPI Cup program, encouraging customers to reuse.
