Winans Coffee & Chocolate – German Village

Who They Are

Founded in 1961 by brothers Max and Dick Winans, Winans Chocolates + Coffees began as Winans Carriage House Candies in Piqua, Ohio, reviving a family confectionery tradition that dates back to the early 1900s. Today, the company continues to craft premium chocolates and coffees using time-honored methods, with confections cooked in copper kettles, hand-rolled and hand-packed, and coffees responsibly sourced and roasted in small batches.

For more than 60 years, Winans has been dedicated to delivering quality, craftsmanship and exceptional customer experiences. By combining tradition with carefully selected ingredients and artisanal techniques, the company continues to share its belief that real craft creates real joy.

Why They’re a Champion

Winans is recognized by SWACO as a Business Food Waste Champion for its commitment to waste reduction and innovative sustainability practices. Through its partnership with SWACO, the company has explored opportunities to expand waste diversion efforts, including composting and food waste recovery programs.

At its German Village location, Winans composts coffee grounds and other food scraps through a partnership with The Compost Exchange and serves as a community drop-off site, making it easier for local residents to participate in composting. The company also promotes waste reduction through everyday practices, such as offering reusable mugs for dine-in customers. By combining operational sustainability efforts with community engagement, Winans demonstrates leadership in reducing food waste and supporting a more sustainable future.
