Thinking of adding a furry or feathery champion to your family?
There are several pet adoption centers located in Franklin County that have your future best friend waiting for you.
- Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center (dogs only)
- Columbus Humane (dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, etc.)
Adopting a pet helps reduce the number of homeless animals in our area and provides animals with loving homes. However, if you are unable to adopt an animal, there are other ways you can help!
Several community pet food pantries and shelters around Franklin County often need supplies. Instead of purchasing new items, consider repurposing reusable ones or donating supplies you might already have. These organizations frequently accept gently used blankets, towels, food bowls, and pet toys. By donating, you’re not only helping animals in need but also reducing waste and supporting a more sustainable community.
Consider taking a look at your linen closet. Do you have any spare towels or blankets that are a little worn or maybe have some minor holes? Consider donating them to a pet pantry and shelter. What about collars from when your precious was smaller? Gently used, outgrown collars and leashes are perfect for donating. Many everyday items are welcome donations at animal shelters and can be repurposed for fluffy champions. So, as you gear up for spring cleaning, be sure to give items a second life when you donate.

- Dogs – Turn an old T-shirt into the perfect tug-of-war toy by cutting it into three long strips, starting from the bottom and stopping about three-quarters of the way up toward the collar of the shirt. Braid the strips tightly, then secure the end with a firm knot to complete the toy.
- Cats- Create a stimulating toy by adding some spare feathers or string to a used beverage cork.
