The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) serves as the regional council for Central Ohio, bringing together more than 90 local governments and community partners to address shared opportunities and challenges. Through nonpartisan data analysis, long-range planning, policy development and community resources, MORPC works to strengthen the region’s economic prosperity, sustainability and quality of life.
By fostering collaboration across communities and sectors, MORPC helps shape a more resilient and connected future for Central Ohio. Its work supports informed decision-making and advances initiatives that benefit residents, businesses and local governments throughout the region.
MORPC is recognized by SWACO as a Business Recycling and Food Waste Champion for its commitment to creating a more sustainable workplace through enhanced recycling and composting programs. Through its partnership with SWACO, MORPC launched a new composting program and strengthened its existing recycling efforts, engaging employees in identifying opportunities to improve waste diversion throughout the office.
Working collaboratively with staff, SWACO conducted on-site assessments, planning sessions and employee training to help transition MORPC from individual deskside recycling bins to strategically placed community collection stations. The updated system increased visibility and participation in both recycling and composting programs while making it easier for employees to properly sort materials.
To support the transition, customized signage, educational resources and outreach initiatives were introduced to provide clear guidance on recycling and composting practices. As a result, employees gained a stronger understanding of waste diversion, helping reduce contamination and improve material recovery. By fostering employee engagement and embedding sustainability into daily operations, MORPC continues to demonstrate leadership in waste reduction and environmental stewardship throughout Central Ohio.
