Do you find yourself sharing sustainably tips with friends and neighbors or brainstorming new ways to keep waste out of the landfill? You might be a great fit for SWACO’s new 3Rs Ambassadors program! Organized around the guiding principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycling, 3Rs is a volunteer ambassador program in which members of the community can participate in a flexible six-week training program and then join SWACO team members as we share recycling, composting, and other sustainability education throughout the community. The program is designed to fit around your busy schedule and offers a behind-the-scenes look at waste reduction in central Ohio, including facility tours and expert insights into the programs that help reduce waste. After completing the training, the 3Rs Ambassadors put what they’ve learned into action through at least 20 hours of volunteer service throughout the year.

Pharmaceutical Takeback Day is October 24th
Many of us have old prescription medicine at home in a drawer or medicine cabinet, and we know that it can be a danger to our family members or even pets, but do you know how to properly dispose of it? It’s best not to throw it in the trash or down the drain. Instead, you can take it to one of the many locations around Franklin County that will be participating in National Drug Takeback Day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on October 24th. Click below to learn more or find a takeback location near you.

There’s Still Time To Recycle Your Old Mattress
Do you have an old mattress or box spring that you need to get rid of? Through the end of November, you can drop them off at SWACO’s Recycling Convenience Center on Jackson Pike and rest easy knowing that they will be responsibly recycled. All sizes of mattresses and materials are accepted (no waterbeds), but they must be dry and free of bedbugs, mold, blood, or other excessive staining. Rips, tears, and mild dirt or staining are okay.
