The ground is thawing and sprouts are beginning to shoot up from the soil. The first day of spring will be here before we know it, and SWACO is also going through a period of growth. The agency announced this week that it will be remodeling its existing administrative office building into a new, expansive Education Center for the public. The new facility will be more than 8,600 square feet and include state-of-the-art interactive exhibits and flexible classroom space for the many class field trips, scout groups, church groups, senior centers, and public tours that visit the landfill each year. Concurrently, SWACO will be breaking ground on a new Administrative Office Building this month with a projected move-in date for both facilities sometime in the middle of 2027. The renovated space and new building addition are being designed as sustainability-forward facilities that, once completed and operational, are expected to achieve net zero energy and a minimum of LEED Silver certification.
