As central Ohio gears up for the summer festival season, SWACO invites you to help reduce waste generated at local events and festivals. If you’re an organizer of an event or festival in Franklin County, please consider one of SWACO’s many programs to help you capture waste and prevent as much of it as possible from being sent to the landfill. We offer financial assistance, technical assistance and best practices guides and even have waste, recycling and composting containers available for borrow.
Here are just a few of Central Ohio’s June events and festivals that are making a difference by increasing their waste diversion efforts in collaboration with SWACO.
- Columbus Arts Festival
- June 7-9, Scioto Mile
- Stonewall Pride Festival
- June 14-15, Goodale Park
- Community Festival (ComFest)
- June 28-30, Goodale Park

Tips for Event and Festival Attendees
Don’t miss the chance to get out and celebrate all that Franklin County has to offer this summer. And, while you enjoy the sights, sounds, and food, use these simple tips to help reduce you, your family and friends’ reliance on the landfill:
- Reduce plastic waste and stay hydrated by bringing a reusable water bottle instead of using disposal single-use bottles.
- Go Ticketless. Opt for e-tickets when available to cut down on paper waste.
- Look for compost and recycling bins for your food scraps and beverage containers.

June HHW Event
Don’t forget to add the City of Gahanna’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event to your June calendar. Franklin County residents can bring their HHW materials to Headley Park on June 22 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. for proper disposal. Most of the items are accepted for FREE, however, some items have a small fee.
