Planning on traveling?
Rethink how you prepare essentials. Take small travel-size containers you already have at home, including repurposed jars or containers, to local refilleries. They will have your travel essentials like sunscreen, face wash, aloe vera gel, soap, shampoo and conditioner.
When it comes to staying hydrated, bring a reusable water bottle that you could fill up at a water station after going through airport security, or at restaurants or gas stations on your road trip.
Staying local?
Central Ohio is making great strides toward sustainability and there are a bunch of ways you can get involved.
Remember to think second-hand if you’re needing sports equipment. Your local thrift store or used sporting goods store have great, gently used options.
If you plan to shop, shop local! Check out the local farmers’ markets, get involved in the CORC reusable coffee cup program as you go on a journey to find your new favorite coffee shop, and search online or ask around to find restaurants that seem to prioritize sustainability like you do.

Household Hazardous Waste
As you begin your spring cleaning this year, be on the lookout for hazardous waste around your house, basement, and garage. This material can not go in your regular trash or recycling. Fortunately, there are lots of good options to safely dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) in Franklin County. You can find a mobile HHW collection event near you at SWACO.org/HHW.

In addition to the mobile collection events, SWACO also operates a drop-off facility at 645 E. 8th Avenue that is open Monday through Friday and on the first Saturday of every month. Accepted items include:
- Household cleaners and bleach
- Paint strippers
- Batteries
- Gasoline
- Fluorescent bulbs
- Motor oil
- Pool and lawn chemicals
- Propane and other types of cylinders
- And much more
For a full list of accepted materials, applicable fees, and hours of operations visit SWACO.org/HHW.
